Learning to use a new computer is often a daunting and frustrating process for the 50 plus.  Our lab provides a favorable setting to learn in with just five computers and small classes.  We supply handouts, follow up homework and resources that are helpful references for our students.  Picking the right course is important in order to gain the best experience.  If you require more information about a course, speak to the instructor.

Registration – Classes are limited to five.  Your seat is only secure upon registration.  Putting your name on a waiting list does not guarantee a seat.  A valid membership card is required. 

Level 1 Introduction to Computers

The basics of Windows XP and overview.  Become familiar with the keyboard and mouse.  Explore the basics of the menu bar; open, close and save documents; searching the web; maintenance; explore basic components of email in Outlook Express; procedure for printing a document.

 4 Weeks - 2  hours each lesson

Level 2 Beginner Computing with XP

Now that you’re more comfortable with your computer, become more familiar with computer lingo; learn to manage your desktop, start menu and preferences;  explore basic desktop and taskbar functions;  make icons & shortcuts; manage files; make new folders & rename; cut & paste; drag & drop;  & more.  You will have access to a helpful resource web site for further home study.

Internet Browsing - Navigating the internet with Internet Explorer 7.  Experience basic internet options; cookies and temporary internet files; creating a links toolbar; download from the net; search engines.

Emailing - Explore toolbars & options, send & receive mail, filing system, forwarding, insert & attach files, basic formatting, message rules, spam tips, backup email addresses. 

 7 Weeks - 2 hours each lesson
